HUNDREDS of young music fans danced and sang along to catchy pop-tunes courtesy of a Czech girl band who visited their school for a Friday treat.
Pupils at Hetton Lyons Primary School filled the school hall to watch teenagers Nikki, Tereza, Vendy, Angee and Veronika perform their energetic set.
The girls, who are aged between 13 and 16, have been performing as 5Angels since getting together in their native Prague five years ago and have sold over half a million records in their home country.
5Angels landed in the UK in 2013 with debut single World Domination, which they performed on Blue Peter and during a winter tour with boy band Union J.
“It was wonderful to have pop group 5Angels come to visit Hetton Lyons Primary,” said headteacher Susan Bell. “It was an exciting experience for all of us here, especially as music is at the heart of our curriculum. The visit was also a special thank you treat, to our Year 2 and 6 children who have worked so hard this term.
“Some of our pupils were lucky enough to dance on stage with 5Angels, which will hopefully encourage them to keep fit by dancing along to music. We also hope that it may give our pupils confidence to engage more in music and dance.”
Angee said: “We have been in Sunderland for a few days now, it is our first time here and we have loved it. Everyone has been so friendly and it has been great fun performing at a few of the primary schools in the area. The concerts have been really good practice for us, before some big arena shows later this year.”
Nikki, 15, added: “It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. We are really excited. We want to continue to perform and also grow up a little.”
Earlier this year the girls were spotted by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest following a YouTube video of them covering a song by One Direction, which was then shortlisted for his online ‘Best One Direction cover’ contest. They will be performing alongside Backstreet Boys in Liverpool in June.
5Angels new single ‘Kiss and Tell’ will be available to download from May 26.
