RETURN VISIT: Boyzone, who will perform in at Durham International Cricket Ground on Saturday, June 7.

A POP group is counting down the days before it bowls over its audience at a sports ground concert.

Boyzone will perform at the Durham International Cricket Ground in Chester-le-Street on Saturday June 7.

The singers – Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating and Shane Lynch – are looking forward to their return to the region, with their show to start a series of outdoor shows across the UK.

Shane said: “We love playing in this area. The audience is always so receptive – they sing along and know all our hits.

“The set will be taken from our most recent album as well as all the hits that people know and love us for.

“We may even try out some of our new tracks. Whatever we perform we really want to give our all, as the people of the North East are just such fun.”

The show is part of the 20th anniversary celebrations for the group.

The group had also featured Stephen Gately, who died in 2009, the year after the band reformed.

Shane added: “Kicking off these outdoor shows in Durham at the Cricket Ground is brilliant and if its sunny we will have a ball. We hope that people come as a family too as a whole new generation of fans are now stopping us to say hi and we love that.”

Boyzone, who have sold 25 million records, will be supported by Westlife’s Kian Egan, who was crowned King of the Jungle, winning 2013’s series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here on ITV1.

Tickets for the all standing gig can be bought via www.ticketmaster.co.uk and are £37.50.

Doors to the event open at 5pm.

Other dates in the tour include open air venues in Scarborough and Northamption and a series of forests.
