TWO talented youngsters are hoping to impress judges when they take to the stage in a national talent contest today.

Ten-year-old Anna Cullen and Molly Kelly, 11, from Chester-le-Street, are performing at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre, in a bid to make it a step closer to the TeenStar national final.

The friends, who go to the town’s St Cuthbert’s RC School, have a passion for singing and perform together as BitterSweet.

Anna’s mum, Katherine, said: “They arrange their own music, harmonies, choreography and styling – the mums are only needed as chauffeurs.

“We’re so proud that all their own hard work and constant rehearsing has seen them progress in the competition.”

In the first audition they sang an acapella version of Pink’s Just Give Me A Reason. Today they will sing a medley of their own arrangement of that song and One Direction’s Kiss You.

TeenStar gives young singers from all over the country the chance to win a life-changing record deal.

Chris Grayston, events co-ordinator for TeenStar, added: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, another Birdy or Luke Friend that can go all the way, with both the ability to deliver a strong, live performance, but also potential to become a professional recording artist.

“There is so much talent out there, I’m sure we can find that star again.”

If they makes it to the final, Anna and Molly will get the chance to perform in front of music industry experts.
