BOSSES of Durham’s Gala theatre are celebrating the venue’s most successful pantomime ever – and announced what next year’s show will be.

Thousands of people enjoyed the city venue’s version of Robin Hood & The Babes in the Wood, with more than 28,000 tickets sold, making it the most successful show ever staged at Gala since it opened 12 years ago. The production ran for more than five weeks at the theatre to rave reviews.

Robin Byers, Gala’s programming and operations manager, said: “It’s testament to the hard work of the whole Gala team – both front of house and behind the scenes – that the show has been such a success.

“And in these cash-strapped times, we are delighted that people decide to spend their hard-earned money on a festive pantomime trip.”

Preparations are already underway for this year’s Christmas show, Aladdin, which will open on November 27.

Tickets are on sale now. For details of discounted earlybird tickets, call 03000 266 600 or call into the Gala box office.
