ARTISTS had a blast putting together their latest exhibition of work taking inspiration from a coastal spot.

East Durham Artists’ Network’s (EDAN) writers group turned its attention to the beach at Dawdon as they began to create material for their display.

The Blast Beach features work by Jean Lowes, Jean Spence, Valerie Wilkinson, Jac Howard and Robert Reynolds, with their words also used as they also made artwork to accompany their writing.

Pieces include paintings, sculptures and items made from knitting.

Jean Lowes said: “This was a very polluted beach in Seaham which has recovered somewhat since the demise of the coal mines.

“Many of our EDAN members visit this beach and are inspired to produce imagery. Our writer’s group have produced poetry, stories and related imagery to celebrate this wild and interesting bit of coastline.”

The show will run at the Art Block, EDAN’s base in Church Street, Seaham, until Saturday, February 15, with the exhibition open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
