Hundreds of fund-raisers sparkled under the stars as they stepped out for the Midnight Walk.
About 600 women – twinkling with flashing wands and bunny ears – turned out for the 10km (six miles) event, in aid of the Grace House Children's Hospice Appeal.

Sunderland's Olympic medal-winning boxer Tony Jeffries started off the ladies-only event at Seaburn on Saturday night, after leading a warm-up in the nearby Seaburn Centre.

He said :"It's a brilliant idea. This is the first year they've done it and it's been really successful."

Despite a power cut in the area just as the walkers finished the event, the amazing atmosphere could not be darkened.

Karen Maclennan, regional fund-raiser for the Grace House Appeal, said: "It was fantastic."

The charity thanked everyone who took part and those who supported the event.
