Now then what have we been doing since last week?
A few football matches have been played, and for the Mags and Mackems - one win and one loss. I think we know which was the more important of the games though for many. In recent years I know it's been fun hoping that the opposition would struggle and be relegated, but just look at what you would miss if that was the case. One of the guys at work was at the game and said he'd never been in such a high octane environment.
Whilst I was doing the same at my mate's wedding. Well, it was a little more sedate than that I suppose, but as is usually the case there can be things that go wrong. A double decker bus had been booked to take the guests to a photo location and then on to the reception. The driver got lost and the five minute trip took us 25 minutes – a right old Magical Mystery Tour.
I just hope Lewis Hamilton doesn't lose his way this weekend, and we'll see him victoriously high fiving just as our bride and groom did after the announcement "You are now husband and wife". Great unexpected moment.
On Sunday morning I was up early and on a train to London and was pleased to catch up with an old work colleague you will remember well. He used to be the match commentator on Metro and Magic for Sunderland – Guy Mowbray. Now working for the BBC, he was off to the West Ham v Arsenal game to work. We had a good old catch up session on the way down and arranged to meet up on the train on the way back. Over a few beers I remembered when I was in Dubai watching the Women's World Cup with Guy commentating on a game involving Bulgaria and Sweden I think is was. The camera focused on the Bulgarian goalkeeper and stayed on her and continued on her and then I nearly fell off my chair when Guy said "You wouldn't would you" He said to me that well it was true and everyone was thinking it. True. But I was a bit worried that with comments like that he'd be joining Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross…. on the bench so to speak.
I loved Kieron Richardson's 73mph winner last Saturday – what a screamer. Then on Wednesday night three of the best goals you'll see this season happened. David Bentley's 45-yard stunner, the amazing little bit of genius from Berbatov to set up his team-mate, then in front of my eyes at Hull Frank Lampard's beautiful, cheeky, silky chip after two minutes. It's what the game is all about.
Sorry it's been so football dominated this week, but that has been my week I'm afraid. Having said that there was a wonderful moment having my photograph taken in bed with someone special. I'm telling you this now as I can imagine some Sunday papers reprinting these with a different headline. But the truth is we took our shoes off and that's all I promise. Anna from the Tony Horne's Breakfast Show and I visited a local hotel to highlight the fact that they had replaced all their old bed linen with cuddly warm duvets and donated all their previous linen to our charity Cash for Kids to donate for any needy families who might not be able to have the money these days for good bedding. So what better way to let people know than to have me and Anna in bed together. The amusing side of it is that my brother taught Anna to sing at Trinity College of Music in London many years ago and so I got the photographer to send a copy of the photo to him and I haven't heard from him since. But believe me Anna is just a good friend and she excelled whilst singing at my mate's wedding and her firefighter husband and I had a good few drinks together after the wedding. It was easy for her to fake things for the photo. His name is Steve too.
