I love my job. Well, the ancillary things that go with it...
"Steve would you like to come to our show/ to our match/ to our restaurant opening?" Meeting up with a lot of the same media people. And occasionally finding something different which I did Thursday night and who was there but our very own Richard Ord.

Years ago I had this idea that people sometimes didn't want a full meal and let's be honest starters and puddings can be eaten and enjoyed all the time. A new restaurant in Newcastle just next to the Theatre Royal has come up with just that. Sort of tapas English style and in a warren of rooms which used to be Bank vaults, it's a clever idea. I bet Richard with all his millions will be opening a similar idea in Sunderland soon.

It's quite strange in my business that sometimes it rains then it pours. Bit like the weather this week. I mentioned Alvin Stardust and Martyn Fry from ABC being on the show last week, well this week I spoke to Chris Farlowe the guy who was given a song by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "Out of Time" and then the song which was redone by the Sterophonics and used for The Office "Handbags and Gladrags". It was quite a bizarre chat as he was on a train on the way to London with a load of French students making a noise in the background. I taught him how to shout "Shut up" in French, which actually worked, but then a baby started crying. Shouting in French doesn't really work with babies does it? Anyway I will be talking with Andy Fairweather - Low and Bobby Vee in the next week or so and hopefully a few others too.

Did you see The Invisibles on Thursday night. Great opener which really left you wanting more, particularly the end bits where they were previewing next weeks show. But hang on a minute it's not long enough! I think I've heard that before somewhere....

Great win for Sunderland last weekend, but ouch! 3-2 hurts until the very last whistle goes, as I discovered on Wednesday night. I grew my finger nails in preparation but somehow they remain and I'll scratch the eyes out of anyone who has a go at Didier Drogba for diving. I think he must have been reading the newspapers in the week between the fixtures and even though a few others were falling over in the sheeting rain he did do his best this time to keep on his feet. Which means I'm off to Moscow soon. I love it there, having been to the CSKA Moscow v Chelsea game a few years ago, and couldn't believe walking into Red Square and seeing all the sights there. I've been on the case for the last eight months and have got myself organized. I won't be paying the supposed £2,000 or whatever it will cost some to go there. For the two nights before the game I will be slumming it on a train on an overnight sleeper to and from St Petersburgh for the princely sum of "35 pounds a night. I'm not daft, I certainly don't have the money that Richard Ord has.

See you for the Sunderland new shirt launch on Wednesday. Come and say hello.
