So what a weekend last weekend. Just as I anticipated, except the fact that the Daughter –in-law behaved like a High Street bouncer, but more of that later.
It started well with a trip to my sister in Sheffield last Friday. She has three lovely daughters who I loved when they were little and now are right little madams. But they're just as loveable.

One is a vegetarian and as I was acting chef on the barbecue. I had to keep all her bits of food separate us carnivores. And when you've got three young 'uns and three adults to serve you can lose your way. When I asked if she wanted another sausage, she thundered: "I'm the vegetarian!" And I thought meat was meant to make you aggressive.

Anyway, I was up at 5.15am and heading 100 or more miles further down the to Silverstone on Saturday morning for Grand Prix qualification.

I was more interested in the on-track activity that day, but I did notice Justin Lee from the Sunday Night Project walking in as I was walking out at the end of the day's activity. I think he must have been arriving to do some entertaining at a corporate event, either that or someone got their timings wrong.

Someone else was walking in as I was walking out of somewhere the next day....

I stopped at a hotel back up the motorway just outside Coventry and as I was wearing my bright orange/red McLaren top to breakfast the waitress went to get her sunglasses – cheeky so and so. She wouldn't have done that if it was Lewis Hamilton.

So, it was back down the motorway for race day... Unfortunately there were about 90,000 other people trying to get to the track and with rain constantly coming down in the jam heading in, it was a depressing, if still exciting morning.

The daughter-in-law had given me a car parking pass, but none of the stewards seemed to know exactly where the Team/ Technical Crew car park was, including the unhelpful lady who suggested I get out of the car and walk the 10 yards into a tent where there was some staff from Honda.

They had no idea either and having now walked 20 yards in the mud my mats reflected that - ooh I wanted to say something to Mrs Miserable, the unhelpful lady.

Anyway, I eventually parked in a good spot which then took me straight into the track and up and over into the pit lane to do some star spotting. Now my daughter-in-Law is happy to get me a pass which gives me access there, however I am meant to leave my recording device and not grab interviews with anyone, which is totally against my nature as it goes everywhere with me as you never know who you might meet.

Coming back from Japan and Korea I had to change planes in Singapore where I grabbed the captain of the England Ladies Rugby team, now you don't get that everyday - so I always kept my minidisc in my pocket at all times.

But seeing Davina McCall, Kevin Pietersen, Lee from "The Apprentice" , Yasmin le Bon, Vernon Kay and plenty of others walking round just begging to be spoken to, I found it really hard to keep my hand in my pocket which probably looked very strange in the company of Davina and Yasmin. But hey, if it was part of my pit pass deal then I had to stick to it. And then The daughter-in-law struck...

Whilst in Dubai I had done plenty of interviews on a regular basis and a friend of mine who worked at a hotel had asked me for advice on doing something special and come up with a days activity for Gordon Ramsay.

I picked him up at the hotel where he has his restaurant and took him to meet Middle Eastern rally champion Mohamed Bin Sulayem.

He is a manic car enthusiast and I knew the Ferrari-driving Gordon would have fun. So after lunching sitting on the floor with Mohamed, Gordon went for a spin in his Mercedes McLaren SLK to which Mohamed had added a new engine.

After that we went to the desert in Mohamed's rally car and had a manic time at crazy speeds over sand dunes which threw me around the back of the car giving me backache for a week.

We then went for a drink with Ally McCoist and a few ex-Scottish footballers who were over for an exhibition game of Celtic v Rangers.

In the evening I interviewed Gordon at the chef's table at his restaurant and that ended the day. Needless to say, when he saw me in the McLaren pit just before the race he came and spoke to me and fondly remembered the day we spent together. Someone got a camera out and with the daughter-in-law diving into shot I had a photo taken with him and Jack his son, before The Evil One dived in ushered me away and said - "that's it move along now..."

I couldn't believe what she had done and nor could my son, telling her "he came over to dad and was telling him how much he enjoyed their time together in Dubai". She apologised to me, but I'll remember that one for ever and will expect a very big Christmas prezzie this year from her in order to erase that memory of me being mistreated like some papparazzi photographer being eradicated for getting too close to Naomi Campbell.

See ya next time, oh don't forget the Kathy Kirby Story - Friday 18th at The Customs House South Shields.
