We had some fun on the radio on Magic 1152 this week...
Hearing that Emirates Airline were launching their direct service from Dubai to New York Friday they had said that included in the new A380 aircraft which will fly over the North Pole will be showers for people to freshen up.

Although a great idea, it does seem a bit odd being all that height up.

No doubt some of the Super Private jets have this, but for general use I found it quite amusing.

Therefore I asked what songs you would sing in the high level showers. Great answers came through including the two obvious ones; The Move's - "Showers in the Plane" and John Denver's "Lathering on a Jet Plane" and then came "Soap gets in your skies" and "We'll wash high in the sky" however questions were asked by purists as to "I'm forever Boeing bubbles" as the aircraft is made by Airbus.

But some further suggestions came in for anything by Wet Wet Wet, Soapie Ellis Bextor and Loofah Vandross Very good. It was almost like The Headline game again. Which incidentally me and my listeners are winning, have I told you lately? The Echo sub-editors are quaking in their Gucci boots!

Last Sunday was fun. Swalwell Cricket Club where I go on barmy Summer nights (probably 3 times this season) were facing a very good Bishop Auckland side and I was roped in... No not to play, but to sell cans on the boundary. Gorgeous sunshine sitting enjoying the win and having a bit of fun and banter with various elements of the crowd was just perfect and they are playing in another Final this weekend. I thought my performance last week was good but I think the weather may dictate otherwise, we'll see.

Many moons ago I used to work at a pub/nightclub around the corner from Buckingham Palace which used to attract some members of the Royal Household. Simon, who worked as a footman became a very good friend of mine but moved away to seek his fortune and fame in the US.

Having been on the back of Princess Diana's wedding coach he had the perfect photos to incorporate in his CV and the Americans loved it. "My Butler worked for Princess Diana" is a pretty good pose. Anyway after being being there for some years Simon met the beautiful Lila Willinhgam who's dad was Willingham the second and I would always call her Lila Willingham the 3rd. That was some wedding with the reception at The Atlanta Country Club - think 'Dallas'!

I had kept in touch for a good many years but lost touch about four years ago. I had tried to find him on Friends Reunited and since February last year on Facebook to no avail. Well, on Monday night I noticed that, because of the impending Olympic Games, Gary Rhodes was beginning a new cookery show based in China. Simon went to catering college with Gary and I had reunited them a few years back when Gary came to Dubai and I had to interview him and gave him Simon's details.

I thought I'll try again and discovered that Simon had joined Facebook on June 30th and now we are in touch again. Don't you love a happy ending? Well it didn't go that way. When he was working at the Palace I'm pretty darn sure he supported West Ham being the East End boy that he is and now he's a massive Manure fan. Victor Meldrew style- "I don't belieeeeve it!" I don't know if our friendship can survive now...
