WASHINGTON are celebrating lifting the Third Division title in the Maxim Cleaning Services North Durham League.

Despite losing 8-6 in their final match at Birtley, the George Washington club held on to top spot by a single point to pip Ryton, who finished strongly, routing fellow title challengers Boldon 12-2.

Chris Oliver, James Morrison and Wright scored wins for Washington in their derby defeat.

Seaham, beaten 8-6 at Brancepeth Castle despite wins from Dave Patterson, Steve Maratty and Sam Pearson, are two points adrift of Second Division leaders Ravensworth with four games to go.
