SUNDERLAND crashed to a 72-10 home defeat to league leaders Jarrow Vikings.
The home side started well and early pressure paid off when Daniel Rundle went over to score, with Chris Laycock kicking the extras.
However, the joy was short lived for the red and whites as Jarrow replied instantly with a try of the own. The Vikings also scored their kick at goal to make it 6-6.
Jarrow did not stop there wit ex-Sunderland player Craig Jones going over in the corner for his first of four tries. Poor tackling and lack of concentration saw the away side bombard the Sunderland goal line and score a further five tries before half-time to lead 40-6.
Jarrow started the second half as they ended the first, scoring another early try and four more followed before the final whistle.
James Pocklington did manage to score another try for Sunderland with a superb solo effort.
Sunderland must now regroup in time for next weekend’s journey to bottom-of-the-table East Cumbria.
