But he insisted last night that the Black Cats had not made a bid for Blackburn's Robbie Savage.

Keane's side fell to a damaging 1-0 away loss to Rovers last night as Savage watched from the stands.
Blackburn boss Mark Hughes confirmed again that there had been talks between the sides, but there are other interested parties.
Keane said: "We've not bid for Robbie Savage. We've had one bid for one player, which we made last week and it was turned down.
"I'm interested in lots of players. We would be interested in someone like Robbie Savage – a player of that style. I would hope for something positive on a player in the next 24 hours, but we won't be backed into a corner.
"It is silly-season and there are some silly prices being mentioned for players."
Keane has already been thwarted with a 2.5million offer for Reading's Stephen Hunt and was linked again with Royals striker Leroy Lita today.
But it is the future of seasoned Premier League campaigner Savage that remains high on the agenda, with fellow survival hopefuls Fulham and Derby also among those interested in the Welshman.
Blackburn boss Hughes said: "I will have to speak to my chairman about Robbie Savage. Sunderland have expressed an interest but as of yet have not met our valuation on Rob.
"If they do that in the next couple of days then we'll make a decision but other clubs have expressed an interest so it is not cut and dry yet.
"It's not a case of us just trying to get him out of the door because he has been great for us in his time here but if we feel there is business to be done and there's benefits we can generate from money raised then we will have a look at it.
"We have an evaluation of Robbie which has not been met yet but we have to look at it if that valuation is met."
Speaking immediately after last night's Ewood Park encounter, Hughes added: "The situation might be different in the morning. It might be that the two clubs will speak this evening, I'm not sure.
"Robbie wants to play week-in, week-out and I can't guarantee that to many players in my squad. If a situation arises that a feel will benefit my club and Robbie wants it, we will look at it, but we're not forcing Robbie out and he knows that."
