THE SWBA Fours competition was played to a finish at Thompson Park this week with the Sunderland quartet of Jean Graham, Christine Hopper, Janet Sykes and Susan Almond taking the honours.
In the final, Almond faced Barnes Park’s Linda Forrest, Eleanor Watson, Ann Callaghan and Ethel Pattinson.
The early exchanges saw the Sunderland quartet hold a narrow 8-7 lead after 10 ends, and by the 15th end, the lead had been extended to 14-10.
That four-shot margint remained in place as Almond ran out a 16-12 winner.
In the semi-finals, Almond defeated Silksworth’s Norma Stephenson 16-11 while Pattinson defeated Whitburn’s Ann Good 15-14.
The singles and pairs take centre stage next and then the annual Marjorie Marshall Trophy takes place on July 8 and 15.
