Sunderland open season at Hebburn

THE Inter County Seniors League begins this week, as the indoor season slowly gets under way.

Last season, the Sunderland A team secured the end-of-season play-off title and on Wednesday they travel to Hebburn to open up their title defence.

The following team has been selected to play at Hebburn: J.Flett, R.Robson, R.Robinson, R.Graham, P.Collins, W.Hearne, J.Jones, T.Jopling, EJ.Forster, H.Shields, F.Knubley, W.Ferry. The game starts at noon.

Everyone who indicated a willingness to play should have received correspondence detailing the changes for the coming season.

With Crowtree closing down, the title-holders are using Houghton as their home venue with a change in days from Thursday at 12.30 to Tuesday at 12.30.

Following Consett’s resignation, the Sunderland B team has an early bye, with their first game is on Wednesday, October 2, away to Hartlepool.

The B team will also be using Houghton as their home venue with a change in time to Wednesday at 12.30. Everyone who indicated a willingness to play will receive correspondence this week.

Houghton A entertain South Shields, while Houghton B travel to Hartlepool.

Last season, Sunderland gained promotion to the Inter Club first division and to avoid a clash with Houghton, the Sunderland outfit will be playing their fixtures on the first Sunday of the month at Houghton.

Their first fixture is against The Parks on Sunday, November 3, with details will be posted to all squad members who at the end of last season indicated a willingness to play.

Houghton face Hebburn in Division Two on Sunday, November 10.

H In the Denny Cup, it came as no surprise when Houghton and Sunderland were drawn against each other.

The tie will take place on Saturday, November 2, with the winners likely to face Stanley while the losers will drop into the Denny Plate. This year’s Yetton Trophy will for the first time be played on a Saturday. Houghton ladies face Concordia ladies on November 9.

H Durham County will be looking to make progress in the Liberty Cup as they are drawn against Nottinghamshire on Saturday, November 23.

In the ladies equivalent competition – the Atherley Trophy – Durham have received a first-round bye.

Meanwhile, City of Sunderland IBC club officials will meet with council representatives on Monday as efforts continue to find an alternate venue. Members can view news from the meeting via the club’s website.
