Sunderland stars out for book launch

THE book launch of the updated Sunderland encyclopaedia ‘Sunderland: The Complete Record’ is to be held at the Stadium of Light club shop on Tuesday evening, December 18, from 6pm-7pm.
The book, authored by Rob Mason, Mike Gibson and Barry Jackson, is set to become the definitive work on the club and to mark the launch of such an important book, players who have played important roles in the club’s history will come along to do book signings at the event.
Expected to be there will be Nicky Sharkey, the only man living to have scored five goals for Sunderland, Bobby Kerr, FA Cup winning captain of 1973 with team-mate Dick Malone.
Jimmy Montgomery is out of the region at the moment but in his absence, leading outfield appearance-maker Len Ashurst (right)hopes to be there as does the player Ashurt signed and who went on to captain the side and make more than 400 appearances of his own, Gary Bennett.
Former team-mates Gordon Armstrong – FA Cup finalist in 1992; Craig Russell - leading goalscorer in the 1995-96 promotion season and Martin Smith –1996 Championship promotion winner.
Colin Suggett, 1960s star, FA Youth Cup winner and a player with the proud record of five goals in four derbies against Newcastle United, also hopes to be there for the launch to which all members of the public are welcome.
