SUNDERLAND midfielder David Meyler has completed his move to Championship Hull City.

The Black Cats accepted an offer from the Tigers more than a week ago for Meyler, but negotiations have dragged on after a minor hitch over the weekend.

But the 23-year-old has now finalised his switch to the KC Stadium on a three-and-a-half year deal, with the fee undisclosed, although understood to be around the £1.5million mark.

Meyler made only 31 first-team appearances during his four-and-a-half years at the Stadium of Light after arriving from Cork City in the summer of 2008.

But his Sunderland career was a case of what could have been, after two serious knee ligament injuries blighted his chances of making a sustained impact in the Premier League.

Meyler started just one top flight game under Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill and that prompted predecessor Steve Bruce to land the Republic of Ireland international on loan in November.

He has played a key role in Hull’s charge to the automatic promotion places with three goals in 10 games and that prompted Bruce to make a permanent move.
