AVB rules out Rose’s permanent move to Sunderland

ANDRE Villas-Boas has confirmed that Danny Rose will not be allowed to join Sunderland permanently during the January transfer window.

But the Tottenham boss hinted strongly that the England Under-21 international will be allowed to continue his loan spell at the Stadium of Light to the end of the campaign.

Spurs have a recall close in the left-back’s season-long loan allowing them to call him back to White Hart Lane in January.

But Villas-Boas, after Spurs’ 2-1 win at Sunderland yesterday, said he is happy with Rose’s progress on Wearside before ruling out a permanent move as “impossible”.

He said: “Permanent is impossible because we have big expectations for the future, but it might be different in terms of him continuing his loan.

“He is our product and will come back to Spurs.

“He has done well and has been a man of the match on a few occasions and this is a great learning curve for the player.”

The Spurs boss made his comments at the Stadium of Light before seeing Martin O’Neill.

But the Sunderland manager, in his post-match Press conference, said he would be delighted if Spurs agreed that the 22-year-old could remain at the Stadium of Light until the end of the season.
