The 22-year-old right-back is on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur and impressed in the 2-1 win over Manchester United after returning to the Sunderland side in place of the injured Billy Jones.

Yedlin had struggled for game time after joining the Londoners in January last year.

But he has featured 13 times for Sam Allardyce's Sunderland this season and is again expected to be in the starting line-up for Saturday's lunchtime kick-off at West Ham United.

And Klinsmann is pleased to see Yedlin, who has 29 international caps, proving his potential.

"Obviously every time he gets on the field and gets minutes, it’s huge for us,” said Klinsmann, who was taking part in a Facebook question and answer session before last night’s Copa America draw.

"We monitor him and talk to him, so hopefully he gets even more minutes in the upcoming weeks.

"He's very talented obviously but he still knows that he has a way to go and a lot to learn.

"By talking to him and also to his club coach, we hope that there’s a lot more to come in the next couple of months."
