DeAndre Yedlin: Could have conceded a penalty but aside from that was excellent at the back. Great block to deny Iwobi. Some important clearances....7

Lamine Kone: Won his fair share of headers and helped keep a lid on Giroud who was very poor. Third clean sheet out of four for the defence.....7

Younes Kaboul: Solid afternoon for the Frenchman. Spared Mannone's blushes too when the keeper came rushing out and missed a header.....7

Patrick van Aanholt: Hit the angle of post and bar with a superb free-kick, Cech was well beaten. Solid at the back....7

Jan Kirchhoff: Sunderland were well organised and fought for every ball. Kirchhoff not as dominating as usual but certainly played his part. Took a knock and tired, was subbed....7

Fabio Borini: Worked hard defensively, covered a lot of ground. Didn't have many sights on goal and was withdrawn....6

Lee Cattermole (C): A real leader in the middle of the park, cajoling his teammates at every break. Too many passes went astray but made a good contribution.....7

Yann M'Vila: Failed to get into the game first half. Saw one shot curl wide and had little impact. Second half far more productive but still wasteful in possession.....6
