Fabio Borini reveals frustration after stunning Sunderland strike

Dame N’Doye opened the scoring against Crystal Palace only for former striker Connor Wickham to mark his return to the Stadium of Light with a quickfire brace.

But on the stroke of 90 minutes, substitute Borini – who hasn’t started a game in a month – scored a sublime equaliser from the edge of the area.

He then raced towards the dugout to celebrate – although noticeably he didn’t embrace Sam Allardyce.

When asked whether it showed how frustrated he had been, Borini said: “More the celebration, than the shot!

“It doesn’t matter how frustrated I was before the game because every player, if they are not playing as many minutes as they would like too, then they get frustrated.

“But what I do, is work hard in training and if I get five minutes, 10 minutes, 30 or 90 then it doesn’t matter to me – I always give my best and the goal showed everyone what I can do.”

Borini, who didn’t even make it off the bench in the defeat to West Ham United, has cut a deeply frustrated figure, with Allardyce favouring N’Doye wide right.

Borini added: “I got 10 minutes and scored a goal and showed I can give the team a lift.

“What I do is give everything I have in me.

“I have 150 per cent to give because we need everyone doing that extra bit in order to stay up and probably 100 per cent is not enough – we need to give more.

“It is the manager’s decision, I always expect to come on if I am on the bench.

“If I start then I expect to play the full game, it is an ambition to play as much as possible but it is the manager’s decision.

“He gave me 10 minutes and it was enough.”

Was it his best ever goal though?

The 24-year-old added: “No I scored better! There was a few with the national team and at Wembley, Newcastle here too.

“You could see my face, what it meant to me though.”

Attention now quickly turns to Saturday’s long trip to Southampton and Borini says they must start keeping clean sheets.

Borini said: “We have to start winning games, three points makes it easier, more enjoyable and more confident for us.

“A draw is better than losing but to be honest how we were at 60 minutes, I was expecting to win the game and to not concede and keep a clean sheet.

“That is key, because then you get points.

“We have the ability to keep clean sheets as we have done it in the past but we showed we can score goals too.

“I don’t care if it is lucky football or ugly football.

“We need to win and if we are 1-0 up after 60 minutes, then we need to win the game.”
