MARTIN O’Neill says Reading’s recent form offers the perfect reminder to Sunderland that they cannot underestimate tomorrow’s opponents.
The Royals have taken 10 points from their last five games to leave themselves outside the relegation zone.
And the Black Cats’ boss says that Sunderland have to keep that in mind, rather than the fact that Sunderland emerged with a 3-0 win when the two sides met in December.
He said: “They were disappointed with their performance against us at the Stadium of Light that night.
“They were down in the dumps that evening.
“But they have fought back brilliantly and they never seem to know when they’re beaten.
“That win over West Brom recently was massive for them and seems to have kick-started things for them.
“It won’t be easy for us because they have a decent attitude, as you would expect from a side fighting to prove they deserve to be in the Premier League.
“From our own point of view, we just want to provide a better performance than the one we did against Swansea midweek.
“Reading also produced a very impressive display against Chelsea midweek, and that’s a reminder to us of how dangerous they will be.”
New signing Danny Graham will be in the squad for tomorrow’s game, as will other January signings Alfred N’Diaye and Kader Mangane.
Carlos Cuellar and Danny Rose have made progress with their hamstring injuries but this weekend’s game is expected to come too soon for them.
