Simpson: I'd join United permanently
Danny Simpson is ready to call time on his Manchester United career – and join Newcastle on a permanent basis.
The defender has become a key player for Chris Hughton since arriving at St James's Park on a three-month loan.
And one-time Sunderland loan signing Simpson – who is out of contract next summer – says he is enjoying life on Tyneside so much that he is willing to discuss a permanent switch, should Hughton move for him in the next transfer window.
A bid of as little as 200,000 could secure the Salford-born player's services, with the right-back's future seemingly lying away from his hometown club.
And after a series of loan spells in England, and with Royal Antwerp in Belgium, the 22-year-old is ready to put down some footballing roots, having all but conceded he is not destined for regular first-team football at Old Trafford.
"Obviously, I'm enjoying my football here, and if I do well enough to get an offer, then I'll consider it, as I'm enjoying my football at the moment," Simpson said.
"I just want to get as many games under my belt as I can until January. I've not got a clue (what will happen in the transfer window) – I'm just taking it game by game.
"It's nice to be wanted, and it would be nice at the end of the loan spell for Chris and all the staff to say they want me to stay.
"Hopefully, my performances will warrant that. You want to play on a Saturday afternoon, and I'm no different.
"I've been in and around different clubs.
"I had a spell where I didn't play and was on the bench (at loan club Blackurn Rovers), and I've had times when I was playing, and I know what I'd prefer.
"You want to train Monday to Friday, and play on a Saturday. That's just me and the way I am."
Simpson says he is loving life at Newcastle, where he has showed his versatility by playing across Hughton's back four. "I grew up in Salford and everyone's a Man United fan – everyone at school and all my family," added Simpson.
"I support United – it's my club – but I've come up to Newcastle, and there's no difference.
"Everyone's mad about Newcastle."
