Simpson fit to boost Newcastle

Danny Simpson has given Chris Hughton a huge lift by declaring himself fit to face Queens Park Rangers tonight.

The on-loan right-back has sat out Newcastle United's last two games with the ankle problem he suffered in the home win over Plymouth Argyle.

But Simpson (pictured) came through a fitness test at the club's Benton training ground yesterday to give Hughton a welcome option in defence with both Fabricio Coloccini and Ryan Taylor sidelined through injury.

And Hughton is expected to pitch the Manchester United man back in against QPR at St James's Park.

"Danny Simpson's back in the squad," said Hughton.

"I've been absolutely delighted with him. He's a player we knew had experience – this isn't a 19-year-old who is coming up through the

ranks at Manchester United.

"He's been there for a while, and has also been out on loan at Blackburn and Sunderland. This is a lad who has got a little bit of experience."

Meanwhile Zurab Khizanishvili says he will play anywhere for loan club Newcastle United – as long as he's in Hughton's side.

Khizanishvili, a central defender by trade, made his debut at right back against Ipswich Town.

With Fabricio Coloccini sidelined for tonight's home game, the Blackburn Rovers player could be switched to his natural position.

However, Khizanishvili doesn't care where he plays, as long as he's getting first-team football at St James's Park.

"I've never played at right-back too many times," said Khizanishvili.

"I didn't play there too many times for Rangers, Blackburn or the national team, only a few.

"But I can play there if they need me to. Chris just told me before the game he wanted me at right-back, and it's no problem.

"I'll do my best and it's more important to play in the game. When you're a player, you play where you are told to. You use your brain to adapt, and everything went well."

Khizanishvili – who helped Blackburn to a win at St James's Park two years ago – is looking forward to pulling on a black and white shirt at the stadium.

The 27-year-old said: "I'm looking forward to a home debut against QPR – the games come very quickly in this division."
