SAFC tell Man Utd striker: It's us or Hull
Sunderland are pressing Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell for a quick decision over his future.
And the England Under 21 international now faces the biggest choice of his fledgling career over whether to move to the Stadium of Light or Hull City's KC Stadium.
The striker had planned to go on holiday after last night's European Under 21 Championship final – which he sat out through suspension – and take time to consider his future.
But Sunderland want to know quickly whether he's interested in moving to Wearside.
Campbell spent much of last season on loan at Phil Brown's Hull. The Tigers are believed to have already agreed a fee with Manchester United – believed to be 6m – but the player must now decide where he wants to go.
A source close to the player has said that Campbell is "getting confused" by the ongoing speculation. The source also confirmed that Sunderland have made a move to hijack City's deal.
The Manchester United striker returned to England this morning to mull over his future. And while money might play a big part in his decision, there is also the question of guaranteed first-team starts at Hull, whereas he is likely to face stiffer competition at Sunderland.
The striker will have to balance his desire for first-team starts with the reality that Sunderland are the more likelier team to go places in the next few seasons.
New boss Steve Bruce failed in a bid to land Campbell on-loan at Wigan last season, but has identified the 21-year-old as one of his targets to begin a new Stadium of Light era.
Hull had thought their 1m-a-year contract offer was a done deal before the Black Cats came in with their late interest.
Sunderland have sounded out Campbell's father Keith about the terms his son would consider and would match City's 6m bid.
Blackburn have also made a tentative inquiry about the possibility of landing the Huddersfield-born frontman, but it is understood he is not keen on a switch to Ewood Park.
