Rugby: Seaham slip up

Seaham slipped to a 52-5 defeat at home to Blyth in Durham and Northumberland Division Three on Saturday.

Hooker Andrew Baxter scored the hosts' try, cutting the deficit to 14-5 in the first half.

But an ill-disciplined second-half performance proved costly, with Neil Hays sent off for a punch in the 68th minute.

Secretary Neil Roseberry said: "If the players had put their energy into playing instead of fighting, the result would have been a little kinder."

* Houghton went down 32-13 at Ponteland in Division Two to stay second bottom.

* Durham City finally claimed their first win in North Two East, thanks to a hard-earned 17-11 success at Driffield. City have been given a boost by a restructuring of rugby for next season, which includes no relegation from their division.
