London misery goes on for Sunderland

Sunderland's unlucky 3-1 defeat at West Ham yesterday continued a dismal run in London for the Black Cats.

The Wearsiders have not won in 20 top-flight league visits to the capital since a sensational 4-2 victory at Chelsea in March, 2001.

In all, over the last nine top-flight campaigns, Sunderland have played 46 league matches in London – more than an entire season's worth of fixtures – and won just three times, with six draws and 37 defeats, for a total of 15 points.

All three wins came for Peter Reid's side which finished seventh in 2000/01, when Sunderland beat Chelsea, West Ham and Charlton.
