Local football: Sherwood looks for Chester improvement

Chester-le-Street have a full squad of 16 players to choose from at West Allotment in Division One tomorrow.

Manager Stuart Sherwood will hope for a vastly improved performance, as the Cestrians conceded five goals to Billingham Town last weekend.

Leaders Spennymoor visit Shildon for an attractive derby, while Whitley Bay, three points off the top, make the short journey to Newcastle Benfield.

Third-placed Ashington visit Ryton without Gareth Bainbridge, but Joe Race and Marc Walmsley can play.

Ryton miss Andrew Innes and Craig Robson, but Andrew Dobbie is available.

South Shields, who hit eight goals last week and are now the division's third highest scorers, have home advantage against Billingham Synthonia, with manager Gary Steadman looking to move into third position.

Tony Stephenson returns to a strong Mariners squad.

Dunston UTS are without Michael Dixon and Lee McAndrew, but boss Billy Irwin is pleased to have Kane Young available away to Bishop Auckland.
