Local football: Seaham crash out after leading twice

Seaham Red Star twice led but exited the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup when Thornaby won 3-2 following extra time last night.

An own goal by Ian Bishop, who turned a corner into the net, gave Seaham a perfect start, but, just before the interval, they had Mattie Hyson sent off.

Thornaby levelled on 75 minutes through Matthew Crossan and, in the first period of extra time, Alan Croft headed in at the back post to regain Star's lead.

Dean Fox produced a rasping 25-yard drive to again equalise and, in the 119th minute, Thornaby clinched the tie as Greg Foster headed in.

The other two ties also went to extra time.

Whitehaven defeated Darlington RA 5-2 but Team Northumbria needed penalties before seeing off Gillford Park.

Jarrow Roofing's tie with Washington was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
