Local football: Ryhope venue switched

Ryhope CW, hit by an ongoing problem with their floodlights, have switched tonight's Wearside League game against Jarrow to Leyburn Grove, Houghton.

Secretary Dougie Benison explained: "We have had trouble for a couple of weeks. Last Wednesday, we moved the fixture to Silksworth but their lights failed just before kick-off.

"Hopefully, we will have better luck tonight and, after being without a game on Saturday, we are anxious to get back into action."

Ryhope, seven points ahead of Scarborough Town, who have two games in hand, miss only suspended Martin Metcalfe.

After conceding 11 goals in two games, Silksworth will need to tighten up at the back if they are to contain visitors Wolviston.

Manager Steven Smith concedes that his side has been well below par recently, adding: "We've 12 games left and I'm looking for a strong finish so we can look ahead with a bit of confidence to next season."

Silksworth's Anthony Mustard, Anthony Rogerson, Andrew Place, Rob Hall, Cameron Marshall, Andrew Bowes, Keith Mouat, Shane Mullane and Jordan Craik are all sidelined while Smith awaits news on the availability of Paul Mouat and Trevor Todd.

Easington Colliery host Coxhoe Athletic, but manager Paul Adamson must do without Danny Flounders and Chris Hall are injured.

Flounders, though, is expected to return within a couple of weeks following a broken arm.

Coxhoe have Paul Legg and Mark Weldon fit again, while Stuart Orr and Adam McDonald are added to the squad.
