Local football: Chester-le-Street on a roll

Chester-le-Street aim to maintain their unbeaten run in Division One when they host Billingham Town.

Following consecutive victories, the Cestrians held a strong Gateshead II to a draw in a friendly on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Josh Carmichael is doubtful and Ian Aitken stands by to deputise. Chris Hunter played part of the midweek game and could be available for the starting line-up.

Billingham Town manager Peter Mulcaster expects Stephen Flockett, who has scored three times in two games since transferring from Billingham Synthonia, to play.

Horden CW boss Craig Veart is attempting to sign a striker to bolster a shot-shy attack which has scored fewer goals than any other team.

"We are dominating games but cannot bag a goal. It's been the same story all season and until we can convert chances into goals then we'll struggle," said Veart, who has Graeme Robinson back but Craig Hubbard is working.

West Allotment Celtic are visitors to Welfare Park.

In the second round of the FA Carlberg Vase, Whitley Bay – who defeated Glossop North End in the final at Wembley in May – start their defence of the trophy at home to Alsager Town.

Following a four-match run during which they claimed only one point, the Seahorses roared back to form in midweek and manager Ian Chandler reckons his squad is up for tomorrow's task.

A blow, though, is the absence through suspension of Adam Johnston and Chris Fawcett is rated extremely doubtful with a hamstring injury.

There are three all-SNL ties.

Bedlington Terriers host Spennymoor Town, Newcastle Benfield take on Marske United, and West Auckland Town take on Second Division Whickham.
