Loan stars will be better on return, says Bruce

Steve Bruce is enjoying the way that Sunderland's young stars are progressing and after witnessing Jordan Henderson break into the first team squad this season has said the door is open for Jack Colback and Martyn Waghorn to make a similar impact.

He said: "There's nothing better than seeing local lads coming through from the youth team as we have seen with Jordan this season.

"I am hoping that Waghorn and Colback, when they come back at Christmas, or if we leave them there for the year, will make a similar impact.

Waghorn is currently on loan with play-off placed Leicester City in the Championship while Reserve team skipper Colback is at Roy Keane's Ipswich.

Bruce said: "They will certainly come back into the squad and with games under their belt in the Championship, a bit like Jordan when he was at Coventry. I am a big believer that young players go find out what the real world is like.

"The reports we have had on Waghorn and Colback are very, very good.

"Waghorn is at the top end of the division and Jack is at the other end but they are both playing first team football and learning what it is all about."
