Keane: Best yet from Deano

Most observers thought Dean Whitehead looked back to his best in last week's Premier League defeat at Aston Villa.

The Sunderland skipper was handed the role of sitting in front of the back four and providing excellent defensive cover in the difficult away game.

And the former Oxford United midfielder not only stuck to the task but excelled at it in what was arguably his best game of the season so far.

Those efforts did not go unnoticed by manager Roy Keane, who told the Football Echo: "It was great to have Dean putting in a performance like that.

"I've said it many times before, but it's still true that a lot of his best work goes unnoticed by people.

"When it comes to ground covered, tackles made, covering runs, sprints, intensive sprints he's always up there."
