Cana: I'll be clever to beat the bookings

Sunderland captain Lorik Cana is sure he'll find a cure to his yellow fever.

The Albania international already has three cautions from his opening five games in England and at this rate a quick suspension is on the horizon.

And now the tenacious midfielder accepts he will have to be more "clever" in future, without taking the edge off his game.

Cana told the Echo: "I don't care about the bookings. For me, two of my three bookings were not even yellow cards.

"I have to be clever in games. I can't stop making tackles – it is why

I am on the pitch. I have to play with high intensity because that is my job for the team.

"I have to make better decisions. Part of it is knowing what referees in this country will accept.

"I will learn that – it's not a problem."

Cana leads Sunderland into battle against newly-promoted Burnley tomorrow and the Clarets are not the mystery to him that you would expect.

Countryman Besart Berisha had a season at Turf Moor in 2007-08 but didn't play a competitive game for Burnley after suffering a serious knee injury and moved on to Norwegian side Rosenberg.

"He came to England and it was an exciting move for him, but it didn't work out because of the injury," said the former Marseille skipper.

"So I know a little bit about Burnley. He told me about the fans and the stadium.

"I don't know much about their team, but they have beaten Manchester United so that tells you they have quality and determination.

"It will be a tough game, but we have quality players and Burnley will think it will be a tough game also."

Cana has decided on his new home in the North East and has settled well in the region.

"I felt comfortable from the first day, which is great," he added.

"Personally, I have been very happy with the start I have made in England and I am very proud to be made Sunderland captain.

"I am learning a new league, about new team-mates and a new manager, but it has been good so far and of course the results have helped.

"The only game when we haven't played well so far was when we lost at Stoke. That was a disappointment.

"We'll go to Burnley now and make sure that doesn't happen again."
