Boxing: Denton eyes Prizefighter spot

Craig Denton will have one eye on the big prize when he looks to make it nine wins in a row tonight.

The unbeaten Hartlepool boxer faces Doncaster's James Tucker in Sunderland where victory could put him in line for a spot in the next Prizefighter event.

Trainer Neil Fannan and manager Dave Garside always maintain a "one fight at a time" approach but clearly a good show tonight would set up the 28-year-old nicely should a call come for the exciting tournament.

Denton has recorded eight straight wins – two of the last three coming inside the distance – and Tucker should not provide too difficult a hurdle to clear on Tommy Conroy's dinner show at the Pullman Lounge hotel in Seaburn.

However, Fannan warned: "We don't take any opponent lightly.

"Tucker drew his last fight and the bout before I watched him in London and he was unlucky not to win.

"I never say 'my men will do this' or 'my men will do that' but what I will say is that Craig has impressed me. I don't think anyone trains harder than Craig and sometimes I have to tell him to ease off.

"He looks fantastic and I'm excited about tonight's fight – I'm hoping to see a good performance."
