Boro denied derby joy by Carroll

Andy Carroll grabbed a point for Newcastle in a hard-fought Tees-Tyne derby at the Riverside today.

Peter Lovenkrands drove Newcastle into a 16th-minute lead, but Middlesbrough roared back well to level with Barry Robson's goal, before Scott McDonald fired home his first goal for the Teessiders with just 16 minutes to go.

But Carroll ensured a share of the spoils in the 82nd minute, planting a shot past a helpless Danny Coyne after receiving sub Ryan Taylor's cross.
