Bent scores first England goal

Darren Bent scored his first goal for England as the Three Lions beat Switzerland 3-1 tonight.

He hammered home England's third of the night, beating Swiss keeper with a crisp left-foot shot two minutes from time.

Goals from Wayne Rooney and Easington's Adam Johnson had the Three Lions in charge but Switzerland pulled one back through Xherdan Shaqiri moments after was sent on as a 70th minute substitute for the injured Jermain Defoe.

Shaun Wright-Phillips fluffed his pass when Bent was in a great position to restore England's two goal advantage, but the Wearside hero finally got his first senior international strike and will now head back home to focus on his club's Barclays Premier League trip to Wigan on Saturday.
