SUNDERLAND’S new Italian left-back, Andrea Dossena, is reported to have agreed a 50 per cent wage cut in order to press home a move to Wearside..
The Black Cats’ 14th and last signing of the summer was desperate for the move from Napoli, where he had been told he was surplus to requirements.
And the 31-year-old – having seen a move to Torino break down this summer when he failed a medical with a thigh injury – was determined to secure his move to Sunderland.
So the ex-Liverpool defender is believed to have offered to take only half his wages until he is fully fit again, with the thigh injury expected to be only short term.
Having agreed the move back to the Premier League, Dossena plans to set his sights on challenging Jack Colback for the left-back position as soon as possible.
