Echo Jury: Jury rues Sunderland’s disappointing performance at Liverpool

WHAT a poor performance. We looked fatigued from the first whistle and lacked cohesion throughout, writes Michael Quinn.

The substitutions were baffling. Wickham was our only option to battle the physical presence of the Liverpool defenders but was left on the bench. If we do not rotate our squad over the winter period, when will we?

From the opening 15 minutes, it was clear that the players were just not at the races. We badly missed O’Shea’s commanding presence, Kilgallon did try, but he is not the same quality. Hopefully we can look to bring in a commanding midfielder and cover for our defence as O’Shea cannot be counted on to be fit for a run of games.

It just looked as though we lacked quality all over the park. At times the players couldn’t pass or control the simplest of five-yard passes, which is a worry. Hopefully we can work hard to score a few goals and generate some confidence against Bolton in the cup this weekend.

I feel for the fans who made the long trip to Merseyside. Hopefully the dedication of the fans can be matched by the performance of the players on Saturday.
