Echo Jury: An impressive Spurs side got the win their display deserved

AFTER our Boxing Day heroics, the Spurs game was just a game too far for the lads, writes Andy MacDonald.

That shouldn’t take away from the fact that we took six points from three tough games. Our performances have been better and we can go into the new year with more confidence then we have had all season.

Spurs came into the game in high spirits and that showed in the way they played. Their midfield showed creativity that we can only dream off and their pace was a constant trouble to our defence.

On the day, the best team won but the way we conceded both goals was disappointing. The own goal was one thing but the way Lennon burst through our back line was unacceptable.

It’s lucky that we don’t face teams with Spurs’ pace every week, as they were more than our defence could handle. It could, of course, have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for Mignolet. He made a number of impressive saves and continues to keep us in games.

We don’t have a lot of time before we get the chance to get back to winning ways with the Liverpool game in midweek, and with the transfer window about to open this could be a critical stage of our season.
