South Hylton B show their class with a comeback win

South Hylton B had to dig deep to claw out a result against Pennywell Comrades A in Group One of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League.

South Hylton got off to a bad start when Pennywell’s Joe Turner potted well to beat Adam Smith on the final black.

An excellent 91 break by Phil Burford levelled the match before a 21-break helped Graham Rutland win the third frame.

In the pairs, Stephen Smith and Stephen O’Wellen built up a good lead and were on top throughout the frame until a 27 clearance by Phil Burford, when paired with Adam Smith, saw them pinch the frame 64-60 for the 3-1 win.

Farringdon kept up the pressure on Hylton with a good 3-1 win at Seaham Conservatives.

Ryan McKenna won the first before Micky McLoughlin beat Ian Hughes 90-42 to win a high scoring second frame.

Gordon Elliott pulled one before Micky McLoughlin and David Robinson won the pairs.

The Victory welcomed Lumley A and got off to a good start with John Butler beating Ernie Bonsall.

Steven Rushworth levelled before Andy Newby put The Victory ahead.

A 28-break by Ray James, when paired with Gerry Porter, clinched a 3-1 win.

South Hylton A, leaders of Group Two, had an excellent 4-0 win against Biddick B.

Steels continued their excellent start with a 4-0 win away to Cheemas B.

Lumley B had a brilliant 4-0 win away at Murton Colliery.

Group Three leaders Mill View B came away with a 3-1 win when they travelled to Biddick A.

Jordan Cunningham got Green Baize off to a great start against Cheemas A before Jeff Burn increased the lead.

Dean Wilson made it 3-0 before pairing up with Jeff Burn to win the pairs.

Railway recovered from last week’s defeat with an excellent 4-0 win at home to Pennywell Comrade B.

Gary Turner won the first frame 63-20 and Gary Caradine a close second frame 66-43.

In the third frame, an excellent comeback by Vince Flynn saw him come from over 20 points behind to force a re-spotted black and pot it to pinch the frame 59-52.

In the pairs, Gary Turner and Gary Caradine beat Brian Parkin and Kevin McDermott.

After Thursday’s meeting, Cheemas A and B were deducted two points for not attending and the tables have been updated.
