BRITTANY Simpson (St Leonard’s) outplayed Grindon’s Pauline Charleton to clinch te Sunderland ladies singles title.
Both players were cautious at first, and, in the first five ends, there was nothing in it. Simpson then upped her game and cruised into a unassailable lead to win 13-8.
In the open singles, Alan Langley (Town End Farm) clinched the title, beating John Sergeant (Grindon). The final was in the balance after seven ends, but Langley picked up four shots in the eighth end and eased away to triumph 15-6.
In the pairs final, defending champions Keith Wheatley and Bill Smith retained the title by beating Grindon clubmates Olwyn Gray and Paul Graham.
Gray and Graham had the upper hand after six ends, but the champions turned it around to triumph 20-9.
The triples final was an all-Grindon affair with T. Haram, K. Wheatley and K. Hutchinson comfortably beating P. Charleton, L. McGahan and S. Walker 21-7, although it was 7-7 after nine ends.
Grindon also won the fours final, with O. Gray, J. Sergeant, B. Smith and P. Graham (Grindon) convincingly beating St Leonard’s C. Thompson, K. Quinn, C. Young and S. Thompson.
