CASTLE Eden’s Sean Huntington is celebrating landing the Durham County Boys Under-14 Championship – but it was a close-run thing.
Huntington and Darlington’s Aron McManus both posted rounds of 77 at Consett, but Huntington – who was first out – took the title on countback.
The pair finished three shots ahead of third-placed Chris Handy (South Moor), with Ramside’s Jake Heron two shots further back. Boldon’s Rian Lamb finished eighth with his round of 92, with Castle Eden’s Ryan Dixon 13th and Durham City’s Daniel Hope 14th.
The nett winner, with a round of 66, was Dinsdale Spa’s Joe Shipp, one ahead of George Hall (Bishop Auckland).
H Seaham have been handed a second round trip to Birtley in the Durham County Clark Cup after their fine win over Heworth in round one. Whitburn, meanwhile, entertain Eaglescliffe after impressively winning their derby 4-1 at South Shields.
