Schools football: Saints go goal crazy!

St Aidan's are setting the early pace in the U12 league, going goal crazy in the process!

They recorded two 11-0 victories against Seaham and Academy 360.

Aidan's added another six without reply when they travelled to Farringdon.

Hetton were also in the goals when they entertained Hetton with an 8-0 victory.

They also hosted Red House Academy in a far more even affair and came away with a point in a 3-3 draw.

Venerable Bede continue to show good form and won 6-3 at Southmoor.

Nathan Bennett opened the scoring early on with a spectacular half volley into the top corner before Southmoor levelled through Darren Noble with a wonderful lob over Daniel Hebden.

Southmoor then had a spell of dominance and deservedly took the lead midway into the first half as Noble grabbed his second of the game.

Colombian Ebin Prieto then got Bede back into the game with a brave finish after the keeper had spilled a shot.

A number of substitutions at half-time changed the game for Bede and Jackson Turnbull made an immediate impact on his debut, forcing home from close range.

He then made it 4-2 minutes later after a fine solo run from Davis Keillor-Dunn.

Clark Stead got Southmoor back into the game with a great left-foot finish.

Jackson Turnbull could then have completed a quickfire hat-trick but unselfishly set up Nathan Brown to restore the two-goal advantage.

With seconds on the clock, Bennett made it 6-3 from inside the box to make it three wins on the bounce for Bede.

Bede's winning run came to an end when they travelled to Farringdon. In a superb game where both teams could not be separated and both teams earned a point after a high scoring 4-4 draw.

In the U13s league, last year's champions St. Aidan's are struggling to find the form that saw them take the title.

They were held 1-1 when they travelled to Hetton but did get back to winning ways when they entertained Academy 360 with a 1-0 victory.

Venerable Bede continue to impress and were too strong for Sandhill View. Sandhill opened the scoring through Jake Hardy with a cross-shot.

Bede responded and continued to dominate the game throughout.

The took a half-time lead of 4-1 with goals Lewis Gibson and a hat-trick from midfielder James Burlinson.

Bede continued their dominance in the second half and created some good chances. They added two further goals from Nathan Renton and Tom Stevens.

Other results saw Farringdon beat Houghton Kepier convincingly 10-1.

Houghton Kepier bounced back when the travelled to Seaham and came away with a 4-4 draw. Monkwearmouth sit at the top of the table and strengthened their position with a comfortable 6-2 win at home to Hetton.

Southmoor and St. Aidans lead the way in the U14s league. Both teams have 100 per cent record and have recorded three wins from three.

Aidan's maintained their winning start with 2-0 win at home to Castle View.

Farringdon experienced mixed fortunes in the latest two games. They entertained Houghton Kepier and won convincingly 8-3. They then travelled to neighbouring school Venerable Bede.

In a very close game it was Bede who came away with the points. In a scrappy game neither side really looked like dominating and running away with the game.

Bede took a first-half lead with a fantastic left-foot finish from 25 yards by Joe Steel.

Tom Robson added a second in the second half with a cool finish. Steven Menzies reduced the deficit as he reacted quickest to a loose ball in the Bede penalty area.

Farringdon then had the opportunity to level the game when they were awarded a penalty. The penalty was hit well but it struck the post and was cleared by Bede.

In the last five minutes, Robson restored the two-goal cushion to make it 3-1 to Bede.

Bede then entertained Monkwearmouth and were beaten 4-0. Monkwearmouth also beat Hetton comfortably 5-1.

Farringdon are the early leaders in the U15s league and were involved in a fantastic game against St. Aidans, winning it 6-5. They were more comfortable against Houghton Kepier with a 7-1 victory but their winning run came to an end when they travelled to Thornhill.

Stephen Foster opened the scoring for Farringdon with a superb lob from well outside the box. Thornhill rallied in the second half and thoroughly deserved their equaliser and their point.

After the defeat to Farringdon, St. Aidan's responded well in their next game when they defeated Red House Academy 4-1.

In the first round of the Sunderland Schools Cup, Southmoor cruised into the next round with a 4-1 victory away at Monkwearmouth.

In the U16s league, Monkwearmouth lead the way at this early stage. They recorded a 3-2 win away to Hetton but also suffered two defeats at the hands of Castle View and St. Aidan's – 5-2 and 3-0 respectively.

Last year's champions Castle View also beat Hetton 2-1 to sit third in the league.

Houghton Kepier caused the shock of the week when they travelled to Castle View and came away with a 1-0 win. They backed up this win with a hard-fought 5-4 victory at home to Thornhill.

The other game in the league saw Farringdon beat Hetton 1-0 in a close game.
