SUNDERLAND Under-10s ground out a hard-fought victory against neighbours Houghton in a derby clash that rained tries.

Despite going two tries down in the first few minutes, the Ashbrooke lads quickly rallied as Adam Williams smashed his way through the Houghton defence.

Williams added a second soon after, before Bryson Robinson powered down the blindside for Sunderland to edge 15-10 ahead.

Houghton hit back tremendously to equalise, and then applied some pressure with a string of attacks from their powerful ball carriers.

The Spartans spearheaded a revival against the Dairy Lane youngsters with Sam Watson grabbing a brace of tries to put Sunderland 25-15 up.

Heading into the second half, Josh Jobling dummied his way the through Houghton’s defence for the first of his four tries.

Houghton forced their way over for two more scores, but, at 30-25 ahead, Sunderland took control.

Sunderland added six more tries, with a hat-trick from Robinson to run out 60-25 winners.

Against the County champions Durham City, Sunderland battled their way back after shipping five tries.

Williams and Robinson both bagged braces with the Spartans heading into the final minute 25-20 down.

Jack Taylor somehow crashed over in the corner to snatch a dramatic draw.
