Semi-final woe for battling Ashbrooke U13s

Have your say

SUNDERLAND Under-13s lost out in the County Plate semi-final as Westoe held their nerve to reach the final in a tense match.

Both sides made good early breaks, with Fletcher Jackson going close after good work from Farai Chickumbrike, who then made two excellent tackles to keep Westoe at bay.

Westoe did score after quick ball out wide, but Sunderland responded well after a surge from Ty Hanlon, who bulldozed his way through several tackles.

Great work from the forwards saw Jackson pass onto Michael Holder, who went over the line to score, but the referee judged that he was held up.

After a quick penalty, Louis Deathe burst through Westoe’s line to score an excellent try, which Holder converted to make the score 7-5 in Sunderland’s favour at half-time.

Westoe started the second-half well and went ahead after a great solo run sliced through Sunderland.

However, the Wearsiders fought back well and put Westoe under huge pressure.

Ben Hutchinson had a great opportunity, as did Dean Edmundson. Brad Wall went close and Deathe almost grabbed the win for the lads,

But Westoe held out for a narrow 10-7 win.
