WITH Jarrovians unable to make a fixture, Seaham’s seconds took on old friends Washington at Biddick Sports College and emerged 17-0 winners.
The visitors took the lead on 16 minutes when centre Graham Aldus made excellent progress before being tackled on the 10-metre line. Eventually, after the ball was passed around, Ryan Giblin touched down to mark his 18th birthday in style. The conversion was missed by Brad Green.
Washington maintained the pressure and actually crossed Seaham’s try line in the 51st minute. However, their big winger knocked the ball on as he went over the line and conceded a defensive scrum.
Seaham missed several opportunities to build on their lead before Jack McCallum picked from the base of a scrum 25 metres out and showed the defence a clean pair of heels before touching down in the right corner to make it 10-0.
Any aspirations that Washington may have had of fighting their way back into the game were broken four minutes from the end of the game when Seaham were awarded a penalty 20 metres out.
Chris Bland was on hand to pick the ball up from the base of a ruck and drive for the third try of the day. Steel was successful with the conversion to take the final score to 17-0.
