HOUGHTON suffered a 10-0 defeat away to Jarrovians on Saturday.
The game was played in severe winds which affected the game and the way that Houghton looked to play.
Straight from the kick-off, Jarrovians were on the attack and their offload game put the Houghton defence on the back foot. However, some fantastic cover tackling from Tom Birtley kept the scores level.
Jarrovians power up front maintained the pressure, though, and they finally scored a try.
Houghton then spent the majority of the rest of the half camped in the Jarrovians half. The home side gave away a number of penalties, which saw fly-half Chris Simpson keep kicking Houghton into the corner.
But the pressure did not lead to points as the Jarrovians defence held firm. There was also a yellow card for prop Vincent McBeth and the home No 8.
The second half saw Houghton back on the attack but again they just could not break down the Jarrovians defensive line.
The home side then responded by putting the Houghton defence under pressure and once again it paid off with their winger scoring in the corner. Houghton made some substitutions in an attempt to get back into the game, but again they could not trouble the scoreboard.
Houghton now go into a two-week break before the home game against Hartlepool BBOB.
