HOUGHTON Boars made it back to back league wins with a 19-8 win over North Shields, following on from their 45-7 rout of Wallsend.
Houghton were fired up to avenge last term’s heavy defeat to North Shields, and the Dairy Lane second string’s pack dominated from the off, inspired by Carl Harvey and captain Richard Lydiatt.
Harvey powered his way over the line for his first Boars try on 10 minutes, with Josh Parkin converting.
Houghton’s backs then got into the action with some great link-up play, helping Havery drive on over the line for his second try, and a 12-0 lead.
North Shields tried to hit back, but Boars were able to break down their attack and win the ball, freeing Jack Sneezham to score a try, again converted by Parkin.
A mistake allowed Shields in for an unconverted try before the break, but Boars’ defensive line stood up brilliantly when they came under the cosh throughout the second period, allowing just a single penalty to finish 19-8 winners.
The Boars are at home this weekend, with Blyth the visitors.
Houghton’s firsts have an intriguing home clash against Seaham on Saturday, as they look to respond to last week’s loss to Chester-le-Street.
