HORDEN scored five tries – and collected a bonus point – after beating Ryton 31-14 at Welfare Park.
Horden got off to a great start thanks to a first-minute try for David Heckles to gather and go under the posts for a try he converted himself.
Horden added a second score when Chris Purvis released Witte to score in the corner.
Ryton got the score back to 12-9 after slotting three penalties.
But just before half-time, Horden added a third try when Purvis won possession and fed new signing, wing Graham Hughes, who raced in at the corner to make it 17-9.
On the hour, Horden claimed a fourth try and a bonus point.
Quick lineout ball in the Ryton 22 allowed Heckles to combine with Andy White to send Michael Turner through a gap and under the posts, Heckles converting.
Despite being well behind, Ryton didn’t give up and came back strongly to force an unconverted try from a series of pick and drives.
Horden were not finished and on the stroke of full-time good defence forced a turnover ball and Turner outpaced everyone to seal the win, Heckles converting.
